He had small roles in a number of movies prior to playing the lead in Happy Days, the first movie in Tollywood to have an overseas release date before the Indian premiere. Nikhil played the role of the son of an MLA (member of the Legislative Assembly) in the movie, which was directed by National Award-winning Sekhar Kammula. Happy Days was one of the few low-budget movies that were produced in 2007 that were able to have a significant impact at the box office.
