Movie Verdict
Chinni is a one-of-a-kind film in terms of plot, realism, and execution. Chinni is not a film for a theatrical experience, so the decision to not release it in theatres was correct. The film has a slow narrator, so it will take some time for the audience to connect with the story and characters. But once you start traveling with the main characters, you’ll find that this dark and gritty drama is a lot of fun.
Chinni, played by Keerthy Suresh, has just nailed it; this is going to be the best film of her career and her best performance. De-glamorized roles always put a strain on the actor’s ability to deliver, and she did so with ease. The kind intensity he showed in his eyes as Sangayya was speechless. Selvaraghvan as Sangayya just lived in the character. Because the director is aware of these two actors’ abilities, he uses a lot of close-up shots.
Chinni looks fantastic from a technical standpoint; director Arun Matheswaran did an outstanding job in every way, and Yamini Yagnamurthy’s cinematography is one of the film’s major highlights; the shots compositions, and color pallet, everything worked out beautifully in the process of creating a new world, and Sam CS’s background score elevated the film to a new level, and the rest of the cast performed admirably.
Finally, Chinni is a must-see film, but it is not for everyone; it appeals to a specific audience, and for those who enjoy intense, raw, and gritty films, Chinni is the best choice. Amazon Prime Video has it available.
